Massage Therapy
According to the laws of Oriental Medicine, our health is dependent on the harmony and balance of natural energy (or Qi) within us. This energy flows along meridians throughout the entire body. Sometimes the flow will become disrupted or blocked for one reason or another (emotional upset, physical trauma, poor diet or overwork are all common examples). By inserting very fine needles into specific points along the energy meridians, acupuncture can move or redirect energy to where it is needed most and stimulate the body’s healing response.
Book NowAcupuncture is a safe technique utilising sterile, single-use needles. When a needle is inserted you may not actually feel it at all – the sensation can be tingling, warm, or dull. The feeling may be unusual, but not painful, even the most anxious of people find treatment relaxing. Patients often find that a course of acupuncture leads to better sleep patterns, increased energy levels, and enhanced wellbeing. An acupuncture session may also encompass other techniques such as massage, moxibustion or cupping.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions including musculoskeletal and pain related conditions, pre-conceptual care, pregnancy support and pre-birth acupuncture. People use acupuncture for various types of pain. Back pain is the most commonly reported use, followed by joint pain, neck pain, and headache. Research has shown acupuncture to be effective in treating chronic lower back pain and osteoarthritis of the knee.
Infertility affects an increasing number of couples in western countries. Part of the reason lies in our desire to have children later in life but fertility can be compromised for many reasons including menstrual difficulties, hormonal imbalances, recurrent miscarriage and stress. Sometimes the cause remains unknown. Acupuncture aims to regulate the blood flow to the reproductive organs and stabilise hormone levels in order to increase ovarian function in women and sperm production in men.
Pregnancy is a time of change and rapid development. It is not surprising then, that the body struggles to maintain balance during this time. Difficulties can arise at all stages of pregnancy – from the first trimester with nausea and vomiting to the second trimester with heartburn, fatigue and low iron levels, and the final trimester with back pain, oedema and breech presentation. Acupuncture can be helpful for maintaining optimum health during this important life changing time and can be used safely in conjunction with western medication such as Clomid or Metformin for PCOS, or to increase the chances of conception with IVF treatment. Labour can be assisted with pre-birth acupuncture treatments from 36 weeks onward to help prepare you both physically and mentally for a more efficient labour.
Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture (or Cosmetic Acupuncture as it is sometimes known) is a safe, virtually painless, non-surgical way of reducing signs of the ageing process and creating a radiant complexion.
